Project Nine- National Paranormal Day-Cripple Creek
May 2-3, 2026
St. Nicholas Hotel & Jail Museum Investigation Summary
Location: St. Nicholas Hotel, Cripple Creek, Colorado, and Outlaws & Lawmen Jail Museum
Investigators: In the Shadows Paranormal, hotel guests, and volunteers
Spirit Box Experiment – St. Nicholas Hotel Operating Room
One of the evening's most interesting experiments involved two groups working in separate locations. Gail's group remained in the former operating room while a second group, led by Ginny, asked questions from another room. The objective was to determine whether relevant responses would be captured through the Spirit Box without the listening group hearing the questions directly.
During the session, a REM Pod and two EMF meters were placed on a hospital bed in the operating room. All three devices displayed repeated activity throughout the experiment.
Several responses appeared relevant to questions being asked, including direct acknowledgements such as "Hello," "I'm here," and "Yes." Investigators also documented multiple responses that appeared to be in Spanish, despite no Spanish-speaking participants being present. One phrase was interpreted as "No aquí" ("Not here"), followed by what sounded like "Mira" ("Look").
Additional responses included possible names such as "Abbey," "Bruce," "Jim," "Jean," "Wendy," and "Juan/John." Participants also reported hearing what sounded like laughter, a child's voice, and several responses that seemed to reference doctors, schools, breathing difficulties, and hospital-related themes.
While many Spirit Box responses were fragmented and open to interpretation, investigators noted recurring themes involving children, medical references, and multilingual communication.
ADA Room (Room 6)
The ADA room produced a series of unusual Spirit Box responses despite being described as a less frequently occupied room within the hotel.
Words and phrases included references to a "window pane," "run," "lucky," "satisfaction," "security," and "watching now." During the session, a tracer line as an investigative device appeared to become stuck, prompting questions about whether an unseen presence had interacted with the equipment.
Investigators also noted the room felt unusually peaceful compared to some other locations in the hotel, although several participants reported feeling jumpy or unsettled at various points during the session.
Room 1
Former nursery in the hospital, Room 1 produced minimal activity. EMF readings remained low throughout the investigation, and a music box trigger object generated little response. No significant evidence was documented in this room.
Outlaws & Lawmen Jail Museum
A separate team, including Sandi and Jen, conducted Spirit Box and flashlight sessions inside the Jail Museum.
Participants reported hearing unexplained footsteps near the solitary confinement area. Investigators also observed a heat signature appearing on equipment downstairs during the session.
Several attempts at communication produced notable responses:
-
A REM Pod activated when asked why a spirit might be present.
-
A K2 meter responded to questions regarding guilt, death, and purpose.
-
The REM Pod appeared to mirror K2 meter activity during portions of the session.
-
When asked for a name, the Spirit Box produced what sounded like "John" or "Juan."
-
Follow-up questions asking whether "Juan" had worked at the jail received a verbal "Yes" through the Spirit Box.
-
A flashlight used as a communication device illuminated in response to questions regarding employment at the jail and whether the individual had died accidentally.
Overall Findings
The investigation produced a combination of instrument activity, potential intelligent responses through the Spirit Box, and reported environmental experiences. Particularly noteworthy were:
-
Simultaneous REM Pod and EMF activity in the operating room.
-
Possible cross-room question-and-response correlations.
-
Multiple Spanish-language responses.
-
Repeated references to names and medical themes.
-
Footsteps reported in the jail's solitary confinement area.
-
Apparent responsive interactions using K2 meters, REM Pods, and flashlights.
As with all paranormal investigations, the evidence remains open to interpretation. However, the combination of equipment responses, environmental observations, and potential intelligent communication made this one of the more active sessions documented during the St. Nicholas Hotel and Jail Museum investigation.
