Meanwhile, In the Shadows...

Sep 13
2 min read

Apparently, September didn't get the memo that we were supposed to slow down.

Shenanigans in the Shadows is officially out in the world, and we're having exactly as much fun with it as the name suggests. Haunted history, strange stories, questionable decisions—and occasionally, actual useful information.

Meanwhile, our research into the Pueblo Heritage Museum's horse-drawn hearse has taken us much farther than we ever expected. What started with a maker's plate has led us all the way to Linz, Austria, the Nisslmüller family, historical records, newspaper advertisements and an increasingly remarkable story about the man and company behind this beautiful piece of history.

And we're not finished.

We're also getting ready for National Ghost Hunting Day at the Pueblo Heritage Museum on September 26, with both a public evening investigation and a very limited overnight investigation. And apparently some of you are as curious as we are—half of the 10 overnight spots are already booked.

That means just five overnight spots remain. If spending the night investigating the museum has ever sounded like your kind of adventure, this might be the time. Not quite ready to spend the entire night with us? Join us from 8:30-11:30 PM for the public investigation.

When Objects Become Witnesses

One of the things we're becoming increasingly interested in is the role objects can play as witnesses to history.

At the Pueblo Heritage Museum, two objects in particular have captured our attention: the now-notorious creepy doll—and, of course, the horse-drawn hearse.

We don't automatically label an object “haunted.” That's not how we work. But objects can carry stories, provenance, associations and sometimes reports of unusual experiences. They give us another avenue to investigate: What do we know? What can we document? What have people experienced? And what remains unexplained?

The hearse has already demonstrated just how far following an object's history can take us—from Pueblo all the way to Linz, Austria.

And the doll?

Well...

We'll introduce you to her.

Oh—and because apparently there wasn't enough going on, I'm heading back to Rochester, New York, next year for my 50th high-school reunion.

The reunion committee asked about doing a paranormal event.

I graduated in 1977.

The event is on a Friday night.

There was really only one possible name:

So, Rochester...

Where are your ghosts?

Sometimes I have absolutely no idea where In the Shadows is taking us next.

That's becoming my favorite part.

Curiosity is a gateway to learning.
